Singing at the National Youth Gathering

At the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod National Youth Gathering in July, several Lancers were chosen to sing, dance, or play an instrument before an audience of 25,000 youth. Christian Burns (LHSS ‘17), Jennifer Stroups (LHSS ‘17), and alumni Kara Mackenzie (LHSS '16) participated in the NYG music ensembles after being selected from a nationwide video audition to sing in the choir.

These musicians prepared numerous musical works prior to the event and served as part of the communion worship event during the gathering in New Orleans. Jennifer had the additional honor of singing a solo in a choral piece during the closing communion service.

Six student musicians also participated in the National Youth Gathering Wind Symphony, an audition-based orchestral ensamble. Abigail Hanson, Aleina Harper, Lauren Chong, Sarah Armbrust and Seth Day were all chosen to play instruments in the NYG Wind Symphony after submitting their audition video months prior. And one student, Emma Lewis, was chosen to dance during a worship ceremony.

Congratulations to these outstanding Lutheran South students!
