Health Professions Program

Many Lutheran South students are interested in pursuing a medical career such as a doctor, physical therapist, dentist, nurse, physician's assistant, occupational therapist, speech therapist or pharmacist.

New to the Lutheran South curriculum this year is the Medical Careers Exploration Course, designed to create or stimulate interest in the many career opportunities available in the health field. Students will learn beginning skills and basic procedures that can be used as the foundation for most medical professions. Instruction will include basic medical terminology and abbreviations, First Aid and CPR certifications, and exploration of various health professions.

Thanks to a dual credit agreement with Maryville University's Walker College of Health Professions, Lutheran South will expand this single course into a Health Professions Core program. Maryville will offer Medical Terminology for college credit as well as provide clinical experiences through field trips to Maryville's health professions labs.
Congratulations to the more than 50 Lancers who as part of the new Medical Careers Exploration class and/or HOSA, were certified in CPR during the 2016-2017 school year. What a great opportunity to be prepared to serve in their families and communities!
