Overview

Lancer Athletics

In addition to an excellent academic program, Lutheran South also has a great tradition in athletics. Our students have an opportunity to excel in a wide variety of sports. During the school year we field more than 40 teams in 16 different sports. Our teams play in more than 400 contests during the year. We promote the values of participation, sportsmanship, teamwork and personal excellence in our student athletes, summarized in our Athletic Core Values.

Many of our student-athletes choose to compete in two or even three sports. In our small school environment, they are supported by their coaches and teammates as they develop skills and excel. Our top athletes may also earn college athletic scholarships and are often sought out because they are also well-prepared in academics.

Our Lancer teams are members of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and are governed by its constitution and by-laws.

Lutheran South is a member of the Metro Athletic League, which includes the girls' and boys' teams. The Metro League replaced the more than 80 year boys only tradition of competing in the prestigious ABC league, with the girls participating in the MWAA league. The Metro Athletic League includes Lutheran North, John Burroughs, Westminster, Principia, MICDS, Priory and Villa Duchesne. In addition to league play, our student-athletes and teams compete against other St. Louis metro area private and public schools, and have opportunities to participate in both conference and state postseason competition.

Lancer teams have won numerous championships over the years at the League, District and State level. Our Lancer fans are known for their great school spirit! We have terrific support from our students, parents and alumni.
