On Wednesday, March 14, the gymnasium at Lutheran High School South was named in honor of Mr. Tom Johnson.
Tom graduated from Valparaiso University, where he met his wife and later moved to St. Louis. Tom was a strong proponent of Lutheran education and in 1962, he became a teacher and coach at Lutheran High School South. He spent many evenings in the Lutheran South gym supporting South students by attending games, concerts, and plays.
Tom was the father of four children (Kathy Odegard, Dave, Rick and Craig Johnson) and proud grandfather to nine grandchildren who are South graduates (Steve, Dean, and Emily Odegard; Amy, Melanie, and Gini Johnson and Tim, Martina and Victoria Johnson).
